The academy selects fellows for their contributions to improve health locally and globally.
Rhode Island College School of Nursing Dean Justin DiLibero was inducted as a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing at the group’s annual conference in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 18.
Established in 1973, the academy’s mission is to achieve health equity by impacting policy through nursing leadership, innovation and science. Fellows are chosen for their contributions to improve health locally and globally.
DiLibero, who was named dean of RIC’s Zwart Onanian School of Nursing in 2024, says it is a profound honor and privilege to be inducted into the academy.
“Selection for this fellowship means much more than recognition for personal achievement,” he says. “It represents the opportunity to collaborate with renowned leaders in the nursing field and provides new opportunities to amplify my impact in nursing through the advancement of nursing leadership, innovation and education. It offers the ability to engage in meaningful dialogues and participate in initiatives that will shape the future of health policy and health equity.”
DiLibero earned his B.S.N., M.S.N. and DNP all while working as a critical care nurse in the medical ICU of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. His bachelor’s degree is from the University of Phoenix, master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati and DNP from Northeastern University.
DiLibero is past president of the New England Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists and currently chairs the board of trustees for the Clinical Nurse Specialist Institute. In 2022 he was honored as Nurse of the Year in an Academic Setting by the Rhode Island State Nursing Association.
