- News Brief: RIC’s Atrévete Center Creates AI-Powered Simulations in Spanish

“This is an innovative, cutting-edge approach to teaching clinical skills to social work students.”
Rhode Island College’s Atrévete Center of Excellence for Latinx/Hispanic Social Work Practice* is developing four AI-powered simulations in Spanish so that Spanish-speaking students can practice their clinical skills in their native language.
“I am proud that our center will be developing a resource that Spanish-speaking students in many Schools of Social Work can access,” says RIC Professor of Social Work Jayashree Nimmagadda, who is principal investigator on this project. “This is an innovative cutting-edge approach to teaching clinical skills to social work students, and RIC is at the forefront of this technology.”
Atrévete partnered with the online learning platform Simucase to develop the simulations. Actors from the Providence-based Teatro ECAS role-played as clients, and two Latinx clinicians role-played as social workers.
