Aside from plenty of food and drinks, the Alumni and Family Weekend is chock full of entertaining activities.

Reconnect. Reminisce. Make new memories.

That’s the theme of this year’s Homecoming Alumni and Family Weekend on Friday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Oct. 18. Friday events run from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., while Saturday events begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 10 p.m.

Here are four can’t miss events to check out:

1.    On Friday, you can take in a performance by the Philadelphia-based Koresh Dance Company, known for its innovative and emotional dance presentations. The show, which includes the RIC Dance Company, is at 7:30 p.m. in Sapinsley Hall.

2.    A family favorite is the Saturday festival, which includes free food from four food trucks, performance acts, caricature artists and a petting zoo with baby goats, ducks, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens and a tortoise. The festival begins at noon.

3.    Everyone loves a parade. The RIC homecoming parade on Saturday will feature golf cart “floats” decorated by students. Three judges, including R.I. Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos ’01, will select the best float. A trophy, shaped like a golf cart, will be the winning prize. The parade begins at Lot C at 12:30 p.m.

4.    Homecoming wraps up with a Saturday evening concert in the Recreation Center by 20 Ride. This five-member group is billed as America’s #1 Zac Brown tribute band. While 20 Ride will perform some music with Carribean rhythms, the extent of their repertoire features Zac Brown hits, such as “Chicken Fried” and “Highway 20 Ride.”
