CodeRED Emergency Notifications

Rhode Island College is located in both the city of Providence and the town of North Providence. While the College uses RICAlert and the RICSafe App to communicate campus emergencies, we also encourage students, faculty, and staff to register for CodeRED notifications from both municipalities.

What CodeRED Provides

CodeRED is a free emergency notification system used by local public safety officials to send time-sensitive alerts by phone, text message, email, and mobile app. Notifications may include:

  • severe weather warnings
  • road closures and traffic impacts
  • utility outages
  • hazardous material incidents
  • evacuation notices
  • public safety emergencies
  • missing persons alerts
  • other community emergencies

If you live, work, or frequently travel through either municipality, registering for CodeRED helps ensure you receive important emergency information that may affect you both on and off campus.

Cell phone numbers are not automatically included in municipal emergency notification systems, so registering ensures you receive alerts wherever you are.
