I decided to join the PEP society as a Lead Mentor so I can help new students transition into college life with a helping solider on their side. I know first-hand how overwhelming and scary college life can be especially without anyone to communicate with.
I believe my position will not only benefit my personal growth but also will allow me to empower others by providing support, guidance and a sense of community.

Sonney Inthisorn
Hi ! My name is Sonney, and I’m a nursing major from Connecticut. I’m currently in my third year here at RIC.
My culture and religion are major parts of my identity and because of those parts of my identity, they push me to want to help others be the best versions of themselves that they possibly can. I joined PEP because, as a first-generation college student, I know how overwhelming starting college can feel. I remember being nervous and not knowing what to expect.
My goal now is to support students who are in the same position I once was in. I want to help them feel more at home and take full advantage of everything RIC has to offer. I wanted somewhere to start and what better way than working with PEP!
Peer Mentors
Buddha Tamang

Hi! My name is Buddha Tamang. I’m currently a junior majoring in Finance and Accounting and a licensed real estate agent.
I decided to become a peer mentor because of the atmosphere and the people I get to work with at CSD. I have worked for our sister program, Student Support Services (SSS) for the past two years.
As a peer mentor, my goal is to support and guide students through their academic journey by sharing my experiences, offering advice, and helping them navigate college life.
Outside of academics, I enjoy working out, playing basketball/soccer and thrifting. Feel free to reach out—I’m always happy to connect and help in any way I can!
Funmilayo Mclin

Hello! My name is Funmilayo Mclin, I’m 19 years old, and I’m majoring in Youth Development with a minor in Africana Studies. I’m from Rhode Island and I’m also a CODA, which means I grew up with Deaf parents. That experience really shaped how I connect with people and taught me how powerful communication and support can be.
I joined PEP as a Peer Mentor because I know how confusing and overwhelming college can feel, especially in the beginning. I’ve been there. I wanted to be part of something that helps students feel more at home, more confident, and less alone.
As a mentor, I want to be someone people feel comfortable going to. Whether they need advice, encouragement, or just someone to listen. College is hard enough, but it gets a little easier when you know someone’s got your back. I’m excited to help create that kind of environment for others.
Mariangely

Hi! My name is Mariangely, and I’m a Graphic Design major. As a first-generation college student, pursuing higher education has been both a challenge and a source of pride. My background has taught me the value of hard work, creativity, and perseverance. I joined PEP as a student after high school and now serve as a Peer Mentor because I want to support new students as they begin their college journey. I know firsthand how confusing and intimidating it can feel when you're figuring everything out on your own, and I want others to know they’re not alone. This role is a meaningful opportunity for me to grow while giving back. I’m excited to help others build confidence, find community, and feel empowered throughout their experience. Most of all, I hope to help create a space where students feel welcomed, understood, and ready to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Kensley

Hi! My name is Kensley and I am currently a sophomore majoring in Wellness and Exercise Science. I am also a first-generation college student, and I am on the Cross Country and Track & Field team here at RIC!
I joined the PEP program right after graduating high school. The PEP program has significantly benefited my college experience because it gave me a head start. It prepared me with college content before my first semester started and introduced me to resources that I still utilize to this day. Without PEP, I wouldn't have really known what to expect going into my freshman year.
I decided to become a peer mentor so I can help students become more comfortable with their environment. Going into college can be very intimidating for many, especially without any type of guidance. I understand the pressure and challenges of being a first-gen college student. And with this role, it can help me lead students towards success.
