Funmilayo Mclin

PEP Mentor Funmilayo Mclin

Hello! My name is Funmilayo Mclin, I’m 19 years old, and I’m majoring in Youth Development with a minor in Africana Studies. I’m from Rhode Island and I’m also a CODA, which means I grew up with Deaf parents. That experience really shaped how I connect with people and taught me how powerful communication and support can be.

I joined PEP as a Peer Mentor because I know how confusing and overwhelming college can feel, especially in the beginning. I’ve been there. I wanted to be part of something that helps students feel more at home, more confident, and less alone.

As a mentor, I want to be someone people feel comfortable going to. Whether they need advice, encouragement, or just someone to listen. College is hard enough, but it gets a little easier when you know someone’s got your back. I’m excited to help create that kind of environment for others.

Mariangely

PEP Mentor Mariangely

Hi! My name is Mariangely, and I’m a Graphic Design major. As a first-generation college student, pursuing higher education has been both a challenge and a source of pride. My background has taught me the value of hard work, creativity, and perseverance. I joined PEP as a student after high school and now serve as a Peer Mentor because I want to support new students as they begin their college journey. I know firsthand how confusing and intimidating it can feel when you're figuring everything out on your own, and I want others to know they’re not alone. This role is a meaningful opportunity for me to grow while giving back. I’m excited to help others build confidence, find community, and feel empowered throughout their experience. Most of all, I hope to help create a space where students feel welcomed, understood, and ready to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
