Emergency Management
Much progress has been made in our blizzard recovery efforts. We are anticipating returning to regular operations on Monday, March 2, but for the moment we continue to limit activity and traffic on campus to allow our Facilities and Operations teams to work as quickly and effectively as possible. We are grateful to the entire RIC community for your patience and understanding during this historic weather event and its aftermath.
Students: Important Info for Wed – Sat
As a reminder, all classes through Saturday, February 28 will meet remotely through Zoom, Teams or asynchronously. Alternatively, appropriate assignments may be posted on Blackboard or sent to students directly.
Students: Please check your email and blackboard messages for directions from your instructor: If you have any questions regarding classes, attendance or schedules, please contact your instructor directly.
Employees: Important Friday Update
Campus is open for all employees to return to in-person work on Fri, Feb 27.
More Academic and Activities Specifics
- For clinicals, practicums, internships and other experiential learning situations, students should contact their instructors and off-campus sites regarding attendance expectations.
- All classes will resume regular schedules and meetings on Monday, March 2.
- An emergency make-up date has been set for Sat, March 21. Any courses that must make up hours can use this opportunity to do so.
- All other activities and events on campus will take place as scheduled from Friday, February 27 through Sunday, March 1. If you are on campus Friday, please consider attending the RIC Women’s Basketball Semifinals game at 6 pm in the Murray Center.
Essential Functions on Campus
All hours below are for Friday, February 27:
- Donovan Dining will be open for residential students from 7 am–8 pm. (The Beestro will be open from 7 am–8 pm.)
- Health Services will be open 8:30 am–5 pm and the Counseling Center from 8:30 am–4:30pm. Students needing emergency care should call 911 or call campus police at 401-456-8888. Students can call the HOPE Line at 401-456-4673 24 hours a day.
- Adams Library will be open for residential students from 8 am–5 pm.
- The Recreation Center will be open for residential students from 7 am–7 pm.
Parking
Snow removal on campus remains ongoing and will take some time. Please use extreme caution when moving about campus and note that not all parking lots have been completely cleared. You may need to park in lots that are further from your intended destination than usual. Whenever possible, vehicles should be parked together in clusters so that plows can navigate around parked cars. There continues to be no Parking in Parking Lot A. Your cooperation assists with snow removal efforts and is greatly appreciated.
During any significant weather event or emergency, alerts will be posted on RIC’s official websites and sent by text message to all RICAlert subscribers. Additionally, pertinent information will be available on RIC’s social media accounts and on local radio and TV stations.
RICAlert Text Messaging System
It is recommended that all campus constituents register for the Rhode Island College Emergency Notification System, RICAlert. In the event of adverse weather conditions affecting classes or travel (such as snow, flooding, hurricane, tornado, fire, power outages) RICAlert will send you notifications of delays, cancellations and closures on campus. The college sends RICAlert notifications after consultation with the division of Administration and Finance and the National Weather Service.

In the event of delays or class/college closures, Rhode Island College will post information in accordance with the class cancellation / college closing policy. Employees should also consult the college's Adverse Weather Policy for more information.
