Susan Craven has been recognized for her school’s impressive academic performance.
Two-time RIC graduate Susan Craven, principal of Tiverton High School, was named Rhode Island’s 2025 Secondary Principal of the Year by the Rhode Island Association of School Principals (RIASP). This yearly award celebrates outstanding leadership in secondary education.
Tiverton High School, under Craven’s leadership, had the largest improvement in SAT scores and the highest graduation rate in the state. Craven is being recognized for her school’s impressive academic performance.
A graduate of Rhode Island College, Craven earned her bachelor’s degree in English in 1996 and her master’s in educational leadership in 2018. She has worked in the field of education for more than 20 years as a classroom teacher, middle school principal, district literacy coach and now high school principal.
“I am truly honored,” she says, “to be recognized as the Secondary Principal of the Year. This award is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our entire school community – our incredible students, staff and families who make our school a place of growth and success.
“As a principal, my goal is to create an environment where every student feels supported, challenged and inspired to reach their full potential. I strive to foster a culture of inclusivity, innovation and academic excellence, ensuring that our students are not only prepared for their future endeavors but also empowered to make a positive impact in their communities.”
For this reason and more, Rhode Island College joins RIASP in congratulating Craven for her many years of dedicated service in the field of education and for always striving to achieve the best outcomes for Rhode Island students.
