Unity Center Services

The Unity Center has various services available to students and some supports that are tailored to specific student populations. We are always happy to meet with students one-on-one, and to connect students to additional resources on and off campus.
LGBTQ+ Student Services
- The Lavender Lounge – on the fourth floor of the Student Union (435) is the LGBTQ+ student lounge with dedicated programming and resources. Learn more about our offerings: Follow RIC's LGBTQ+ Office on Instagram
- The Lavender Table – is a monthly student-led discussion group for LGBTQ+ students and allies. Past discussion topics have included: dating, family, politics, exploring gender, navigating being queer at RIC, and more.
- Our Gender-Affirming Closet – is located in the Lavender Lounge and open to all students. Interested in donating to the closet? Email the Unity Center at unitycenter@ric.edu.
International, Immigrant, Undocumented, DACAmented & Refugee Student Services
The Unity Center helps students develop a global citizenship mindset, that helps them better understand their positionality in this world in order to better navigate it. We connect students to immigration services, introduce them to scholarship, internship and fellowship opportunities, and most importantly, give them with a brave space to talk and meet other supportive allies.

Multicultural and Identity-Based Student Organization Support
The Unity Center is happy to help multicultural and identity-based student organizations plan events related to identity, culture, and sociopolitical issues. We offer social justice trainings and provide support in navigating conflict resolution, bias incidents, and intracommunity issues. We are also always happy to boost events on our Instagram Story at @unitycenterric.
Interfaith Services
The Unity Center provides access to a Chaplain who visits the campus once a week and provides interfaith programming during the academic year. Our current Chaplain is Reverend Savannah Ponder and her office hours are on Wednesdays.
What is a Chaplain?
- a confidential conversation partner for navigating the joys and struggles of being in school such as aspirations, hopes, failures, relationships, grief and loss, and finding belonging
- a resource to accompany you when asking meaning-making questions like: Who am I? What kind of life do I want to live? What do I believe? What gifts do I have to offer this world?
- a caring presence who can offer reflective listening, nonjudgmental emotional/spiritual support
- a companion in times of need/crisis, who can assure you that you are not alone in your pain
- a guide to spirituality/religion who can connect you to a faith community aligning with your values
Bias Incident Support
The Unity Center is here to support you when a bias incident occurs. We can process the incident with you, walk you through filling out the bias incident report form, and offer additional resources.
