Honoring and Celebrating at RIC

The Unity Center is hosting two events this April to honor Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Nationally, AANHPI heritage month is celebrated in May, but while classes are in session we hope that you'll participate, learn, celebrate, and enjoy RIC's AANHPI heritage month with us!

Mahjong at the UC!

On Thursday, April 23, 1–3 pm in the Unity Center come learn to play mahjong from local instructors. No previous experience needed. Light refreshments provided. For centuries people have sat around a Mahjong table and gossiped. Learn a game of skill, strategy and luck that creates a lifetime of opportunities to sit with your favorite people and talk junk.

Matcha Workshop at Ceremony PVD

On Friday, April 24, 1–2:30 pm we are so excited to take a field trip to Ceremony PVD in honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! This 90-minute workshop will include education on the matcha ritual, tools and brief history, a guided matcha tasting (with two different grades of matcha), a structured hands-on rotation, and a Q&A on how to build a modern ritual.
