Building Addressing Project

What You Need to Know

Every building on campus now has its own street address, assigned as part of a campuswide safety and emergency-response initiative. Browse these FAQs to learn what's changed and what it means for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rhode Island College has completed a campuswide building-addressing project to improve safety, security and emergency response. Previously, many campus buildings shared the College's general address, which could make it difficult for emergency responders, visitors and service providers to identify a specific building.

Each campus building now has a unique street address aligned with campus roadways and municipal emergency response systems. Building-specific addresses help 911 dispatchers, Campus Police, fire departments and other emergency responders identify and reach the correct building more quickly and accurately — especially when someone reporting an emergency does not know the building's name but can provide its street address.

Building-specific addresses are available in the RIC Department Directory.

Use your building-specific address when:

  • calling 911 or Campus Police during an emergency
  • providing directions to visitors or meeting attendees
  • arranging rideshare services such as Uber or Lyft
  • ordering personal food delivery through services such as DoorDash or Uber Eats

No. Continue to use the college's official address on institutional materials:

Rhode Island College
600 Mount Pleasant Avenue
Providence, RI 02908

This includes letterhead, business cards, forms, email signatures and other official college documents.

For personal deliveries — such as food, rideshare pickups/drop-offs, and similar services — you may provide your building-specific address.

For business mail and commercial shipments, continue to follow the College's established Mailroom and receiving procedures. Do not arrange for business-related shipments to be delivered directly to your building unless specifically authorized.

Not necessarily. Digital navigation services rely on external data updates and, in some cases, crowdsourced information. Although these services have been notified of the new addresses, there may be an adjustment period before the changes appear consistently across all platforms.

During this transition period, you may need to provide the building name or additional directions to help visitors and service providers locate the correct destination.

If you are reporting an emergency on campus, provide the building-specific address whenever possible, along with the building name, room number or other specific location information — this combination helps emergency responders locate the incident as quickly as possible.

The new addresses do not change where you should report an emergency. Continue to call 911 for emergencies or Campus Police as appropriate. The new addresses simply give emergency responders more precise location information.

The Emergency Management Office is the primary contact for this campus-wide initiative.
