Mental Health Counseling Field, Practicum, and Internship Nuts & Bolts
As our Clinical Mental Health Counseling students prepare to begin their practicum and internship experiences, they need to understand the key steps and tasks for each stage.
*Starting Fall 2027, students will be required to complete a year-long field placement for their advanced practicum sequence (CEP 683/684).
Before the Semester
- Complete the Placement Registration Form for (CEP683 and CEP610)
- Obtain liability insurance
- Enroll in courses
- Obtain a BCI from the RI Attorney General's Office
Early in the Semester
- Sign Practicum Agreement (CEP 683 Practicum III)
- Sign Internship Agreement (CEP 610 Internship I)
- Generate initials goals
During the Semester
- Maintain a log of clinical activities: (CEP 683, 684, CEP 610, CEP 611) Document hours at least every two weeks
Documenting Your Time
Students will use Blackboard to access information about placements, complete the required paperwork, and log their hours for the following courses: Practicum III & Practicum IV ((CEP 683/684) and Internship I & II (CEP 610/611). At the End of the Semester
- Submit final goals
- Complete supervisor and site evaluation
