Recommended Resources Outside of RIC

The Rhode Island College Counseling Center is committed to helping students access the support they need, both on and off campus. While many concerns can be addressed through Counseling Center services, students may benefit from community resources that offer specialized, intensive, long-term, or immediately available support.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately. For on-campus emergencies, contact Rhode Island College Campus Police at 401-456-8888. For after-hours emotional support, students may also contact the RIC HOPE Line at 401-456-HOPE (4673) or 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.

The BHLink Hotline provides immediate access to behavioral healthcare in a community-based, 24/7 facility.

Butler Hospital

Butler Hospital is Rhode Island's leading psychiatric and behavioral health hospital and one of the Counseling Center's most frequently used referral resources for students requiring specialized, intensive, or higher levels of mental health care. Butler offers inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, substance use, and psychiatric services.

Brown University Health Psychiatry & Behavioral Health Services

Brown University Health offers a comprehensive continuum of behavioral health services across Rhode Island, including outpatient counseling, psychiatric services, hospital-based treatment, emergency psychiatric care, and specialty behavioral health programs. The Rhode Island College Counseling Center collaborates with Brown University Health providers to help students access appropriate care when needed.

Looking for Long-Term Counseling?

The Rhode Island College Counseling Center primarily provides short-term, goal-focused counseling services. Students seeking long-term therapy, specialized treatment, weekly counseling, or services beyond the scope of the Counseling Center may be referred to community providers. Counseling Center staff and Learning for Life Navigators can assist students in identifying providers that match their insurance, financial needs, treatment goals, and personal preferences.
